As is known to all, each of us has donea lot of reading since we went to school. The reading mainly includes Chinesereading and English reading. However, compared with Chinese reading, theimportance of English reading is often ignored in bilingual reading among mostpeople. In fact, English reading ability is the basis for the development ofother language abilities for most English learners. Reading always plays animportant role in students' English learning. Reading can not only cultivatestudents' sense of English language,but also promote vocabulary accumulationand improve writing level. Meanwhile, for one thing, it is very beneficial tocultivate students' comprehensive English ability; for another thing, it is themain means and effective way to learn English well.
Now, I would like to state my personal views on English reading from thefollowing aspects.
The first aspect, the effect of English reading.
English reading is an important means to improve English learning interestand knowledge. With the continuous improvement of reading ability and languageknowledge, the amount of English reading will continue to increase. A part ofthe students' attention will shift to the content of the reading material.Interest in subject matter and content makes English learners feel the progressand achievement of English learning in English reading, which in turn furtherstimulates their interest in English learning. Through a large number ofextensive English reading, English learners can acquire knowledge, increasetheir knowledge and broaden their horizons. It can further promote theenhancement of English learning motivation as well.
Reading can cultivate and enhance students' sense of language. Languagesense which is a keen and rich perception of language and character formed inlong-term language practice, it plays an essential role during the period oflearning English. It can determine whether the language you speak is pure andauthentic to some extent.
Reading can improve English writing effectively. In English learning,writing is not only an important but also a difficult point. In addition tolaying a solid language foundation, that is, a certain vocabulary and grammarfoundation, a large number of reading is also necessary. As for therelationship between reading and writing,as the Chinese saying goes, "Readwide, and you will wisely write."
The second aspect, reading skills.
First of all, fast and efficient reading is conducive to the overalldevelopment of English learners' intelligence. English reading not onlyincreases English learners' knowledge and interest, but also improves theirabilities of abstract speculation, generalization, induction, synthesis,logical thinking, understanding and memory.
Secondly, reading is the supplement of cultural background knowledge. InEnglish articles, some British and American history, literary knowledge,customs and religious beliefs of English speaking countries are ofteninfiltrated. Therefore, what students learn in English reading is not only thebasic knowledge of English, but also a supplement to the cultural background ofEnglish speaking countries.
Third, reading is the cultivation of good reading habits. Now students havea number of homework after class and all kinds of interest classes are full onweekends. As a result, many students' reading volume is not much enough, letalone good reading habits. Reading more English books can not only increasestudents' reading volume, but also can cultivate students' reading habitsgradually.
The third aspect, the ways of improving English reading ability.
First, improve reading ability and enlarge vocabulary. If we want toimprove our reading ability, we must first enlarge our vocabulary. The lessvocabulary not only affects the reading speed, but also increases thedifficulty of reading comprehension. In English learning, we should be good ataccumulating vocabulary. Reading itself is the best way to learn vocabulary andenlarge vocabulary. If you read more, you can get in touch with more new words;if you accumulate more, you can consolidate your vocabulary. In addition, wordformation can be used to increase the vocabulary, for example, prefixes,suffixes and roots. You can also learn and master vocabulary by doing morevocabulary exercises in the textbook.
Second, try to find the topic sentence to understand the article better. Topicsentences are usually located at the beginning of a sentence, sometimes in themiddle or at the end of a sentence. A good grasp of the topic sentence canbetter understand the full text. The topic sentence is the key content of eachparagraph. If we can grasp it correctly, it will play an important role in improvingmiddle school students' English reading comprehension ability.
Third, read more English articles that are easy to understand. At first,middle school students can try to read some easy English stories. Then as timegoes on, students gradually have a sense of language in English articles. Atthis time, they can read some new words or infer the meaning of the wordthrough the context. In this way, on the one hand, students can improve theirreading comprehension ability as soon as possible by expanding their readingcapacity; on the other hand, they can enlarge their vocabulary.
Fourth, recite the wonderful paragraphs of the text selectively. Studentscan choose some interesting passages and read them repeatedly until they canretell or recite them in the morning. If you can persist in it for a long time,you will surely gain a lot. Reciting the text often can enhance the sense ofEnglish language. With a strong sense of language, reading comprehensionability will be imperceptibly improved.
To sum up, reading plays an important role in students' English learning. Forme, as an English teacher, in the process of teaching, teachers should helpstudents improve their English reading comprehension ability by combining withstudents' actual situation. Students should actively cooperate with teachers inteaching, strive to master all kinds of reading skills and improve readingcomprehension ability and reading speed. In this way, students can not onlyincrease the interest on English, but also can improve students’ readingabilities. More reading, more fun!
