Goodafternoon, everyone! I’m Chenfeng, a student from Xiangshui ExperimentalSchool. Today, I’m going to share a novel named Black Beauty with you.
To befirst, let’s know sth about the author. Black Beauty is a novel written by anEnglish author Anna Sewell. It was composed in the last years of her life,during which she was confined to her house as an invalid. Anna Sewell was bornin Norfolk, England. She never married or had children. She wrote the book toconvince people to be kind to the horse out of a strong objection to the abuseor violence given by humans on animals. It took her six years to write when shewas seriously ill. It was the only book she wrote and she died shortly afterthe book was published.
Themain character is a horse. Even so, I tend to believe that he is more like ahuman because he has emotions and feelings. He is considerate, brave andgood-tempered . He begins his career as a carriage horse for wealthy people butwhen he "breaks his knees" , he is no longer considered presentableenough and is put to much harder work. He always tries his best to serve humansdespite the circumstance.
Thestory is narrated in the first person as an autobiographical memoir told by ahorse named Black Beauty —beginning with his carefree days as a colt on anEnglish farm, to his difficult life pulling cabs in London, to his happyretirement in the country.
Alongthe way, he meets with many hardships and recounts many tales of cruelty andkindness.
Eachshort chapter recounts an incident in Black Beauty‘s life containing a lessonor moral typically related to the kindness, sympathy, and understandingtreatment of horses.
BlackBeauty was a good-tempered horse. It didn’t complain the life and did its bestin work all the time. Even if it was a horse, it had its own feelings. The lifeof Black Beauty is like that of us humans. As the horse was once mistreated andinsulted, we would suffer from unexpected things such as illnesses and failurein our daily life. If a horse can be brave enough to face the unknown future,we should also be positive to the life. What is more, we should respect and bekind to animals because there is no religion without love.
